When Tad Hamilton's (Josh Duhamel) wild lifestyle gets him in tabloid trouble, his agents suggest he offer a date with himself as a way to show his soft side. Small-town girl Rosalie wins the date, and of course the romance continues. Hamiltons Hollywood camp wants him to break it off, and Rosalies friends worry that she will get hurt, but she is caught up in the fantasy lifestyle of the Hollywood hunk.
The cast of the film met journalists poolside at the W Hotel in Westwood, California to offer a preview of the film. They showed scenes from the film, including several Cinderella moments where Rosalie and her girlfriend Cathy (Ginnifer Goodwin) swoon over Tad and his Hollywood accoutrements, and scenes where Rosalies friend Pete (Topher Grace) worries about Tads intentions, listing all the sexual double entendres he can probably get away with in a PG-13 film. The film is directed by Robert Luketic ("Legally Blonde") and will open in the Spring of 2004.
KATE BOSWORTH ('Rosalee'):
Was the character written blonde? Was it important?
I don't think she was written as anything really. Id just done "Wonderland" and that was such a dark headspace that I sort of wanted a more light headspace, so Im blonde. Its pretty common sense but it works.
Will this film shatter Americas innocence about what Hollywood is really like?
Oh no, I don't think so. I think it more pokes fun at it. I think people are pretty aware of the good and the bad sides of all that.
Where did you find the characters innocence?
I don't know. I think everybody sort of has an innocent side to them, so I just tapped into that more so than any other aspect. Its interesting, certain aspects of your character that you can really enlarge in a certain movie, and this one I tapped into the innocence, the naivete.
Were you ever that innocent when you came to Hollywood?
No, I don't think so. I was pretty aware.
Would you ever offer a date with yourself in a contest?
No.
Who would you like to win a date with?
I think thats why I liked playing the role, because I could live vicariously through her character.
JOSH DUHAMEL ('Tad'):
Did you ever think youd be playing a big teen idol?
No, but it was fun because you get to sort of poke fun at some of the ways that a lot of celebrities use the media to boost their career, so it was a good way to have fun with it.
Could you sympathize with Kates character?
I can understand it, yeah. When I first came here, I knew exactly what she was going through. I was so intimidated when I first moved to even a small town in Northern California. I was so intimidated by it all. So I associated more with what she went through than I did with what I went through. I always imagined what it would feel like to be a world famous movie star. It was fun.
Would you ever auction yourself off for a date?
If it paid enough. I actually have done it. I did it when I was on "All My Children," we did a thing for Seventeen Magazine where they had this contest to win a date with a soap star, and I ended up going. I went to a prom with a girl from Alabama.
How was it?
She was actually very, very sweet. We still keep in touch. Shes a sweetheart. I think shes in New York now.
How is "Las Vegas" going?
We got picked up for the back nine, so we have a full 22 which is good. You spend like 15, 16 hours a day shooting these things. You dont know if anybodys gonna like it. So were just happy that its getting good numbers and were consistently getting better with that. Im sort of in the groove now.
