"Eli Roth has crafted an instant horror classic with 'Cabin Fever.' We are delighted to be associated with such an exciting new filmmaker and look forward to a long term relationship with Eli," said Ortenberg.
"It's truly a dream come true. The most important thing to me is that the film is distributed by a company that is passionate about the material and truly understands it. Lions Gate acquiring 'Cabin Fever' is beyond my wildest dreams. This is a true Cinderella story," said Roth.
Ortenberg, Peter Block, President of Home Entertainment, Acquisitions and New Media, and Jason Constantine, Vice President of Acquisitions, negotiated the deal on behalf of Lions Gate, with executive producer Susan Jackson of Turtles Crossing and Cassian Elwes of the William Morris Agency negotiating on behalf of the filmmakers.
"Cabin Fever" follows friends Jeff, Karen, Paul, Marcy and Bert as they embark on a vacation deep into the mountains as a last hurrah following college graduation. With the top down and the music up, they drive to a remote cabin to enjoy their last days of decadence before entering the working world. However, when one of the friends contracts a virulent flesh-eating disease, the group dynamic devolves into survival of the fittest, as the rest slowly turn on one another in their desperate attempts to avoid getting the virus.
"Cabin Fever" is the directorial debut of Eli Roth, a protégé of master filmmaker David Lynch. Roth co-wrote the screenplay with Randy Pearlstein from a story by Roth. Produced by Lauren Moews, Sam Froelich, Evan Astrowsky, and Eli Roth, executive produced by Susan Jackson. Cinematography by Scott Kevan, edited by Ryan Folsey, with music by Nathan Barr and Angelo Badalamenti. The film stars Jordan Ladd ("Never Been Kissed," "Club Dread"), Rider Strong ("Boy Meets World"), James DeBello ("Scary Movie 2"), Cerina Vincent ("Not Another Teen Movie"), Joey Kern ("Super Troopers," "XX/XY") and Arie Verveen ("The Thin Red Line").
