The Women Get Their Turn in "Beauty Shop"

From Rebecca Murray and Fred Topel, for About.com

With the success of "Barbershop" blazing the way, producer Magic Johnson steps into the ring with "Beauty Shop," Johnson's take on the happenings inside hair cutting salons.

REAGAN GOMEZ-PRESTON ('Fiona'):

Has "Beauty Shop" started filming yet?
I actually just finished it this summer.

What was it like working on this comedy?
Magic Johnson's the executive producer and I had so much fun. Mo'Nique, the comedian, is in it. She's hilarious. I had a really good time.

What's the difference between girls' banter and the guys in "Barbershop?"
You know what? It's crazy because I just assumed they would have put out "Beauty Shop" first. So much more drama goes on in the beauty shop. The girls, we talk, we gossip, and stuff like that.

Is there anything controversial?
If there is, I wouldn't be able to tell you. You'd have to wait and see.

How about any political commentary?
There might be, there might be. You're just going to have to wait and see.

Did you learn to cut hair?
No, I didn't. I wish I did. I actually played a receptionist in the movie in the beauty shop.

Did you get free spa trips?
I did, actually. I got a free facial and stuff at some beauty supply stores. I got a lot of free hair products and stuff.
