April 22, 2003 - Buena Vista Games announced Rebecca Romijn-Stamos has come onboard the "Tron 2.0" game as the voice of Mercury. The title is scheduled to hit stores on August 26, 2003.
As Mercury, Romijn-Stamos will portray an undefeated champion light cycle racer who pairs up with Jet Bradley, the lead character, to fight corruption in the computer world. According to the press release issued by Buena Vista Games, "Mercury is a fearless computer artificial intelligence or Game Bot who was created by an unknown user to help Jet navigate the dangers of a mysterious digital world."
The supermodel-turned-actress has starred in "X2" along with being seen on the cover of dozens of magazines (including Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue).
Bob Picunko, director of marketing for Buena Vista Games was quoted as saying, "Mercury plays a critical role in TRON 2.0 by helping the player, as Jet Bradley, discover his new powers as a 'User.' She also helps to reveal intriguing background that explains what has been happening in the digital world in the past 20 years, the last time a human was digitized in the 'TRON' storyline. Rebecca's voice adds a new dimension to the character and provides the depth that we're looking for in a powerful female lead."
