In this interview from the "Van Helsing" World Premiere, Jeremy Sumpter discusses his work on the pilot for the TV series, "Clubhouse," and how he's adjusting to hearing his name screamed by female admirers.
INTERVIEW WITH JEREMY SUMPTER:
Now that all the "Peter Pan" hoopla is over, what's next for you?
I just finished a pilot called Clubhouse, with Mel Gibson producing.
Whats your character in Clubhouse?
I play Pete Young. Its about a boy who becomes a bat boy for the New York Empires. Theyre exactly like the Yankees, same thing, in New York, everyone loves the Yankees, except they are the Empires. I become a bat boy and I meet this guy named Kenny Baines who is one of the biggest baseball players on the team. He asks me to take his Ferrari to a garage. I get pulled over by the cops and they ask me for my license and registration so I pull open the glove box and steroids come out. So its either me helping Kenny Baines or getting him off the team and me losing my job. Its a really confusing thing.
How much research did you do as a bat boy?
Well, Im actually going to be a bat boy for a couple of games for the Dodgers when theyre coming to town.
Are the Dodgers your favorite team?
No, the Giants are - San Francisco. The one team that everyone in LA hates (laughing).
Are they using real baseball players to star in Clubhouse?
When the show gets picked up there probably will be some. Derek Jeter might come on or something. That would be awesome.
Do you want to do more films?
I definitely want to do movies and stuff. Movies are great, TV is great.
How has it been adjusting to all the female fans after Peter Pan?
Its awesome. I get recognized a lot now. Its great. I was wanting that for a long time and now I finally have it and its great.
Are you used to having girls call out your name or is it still kind of strange?
Its different hearing girls I dont even know scream my name. (Laughing) Its different.
