In conjunction with the film's recent theatrical run and DVD release, a newly remastered edition of the soundtrack album -- featuring two previously unreleased bonus tracks and a newly created music video conceived by Coppola's late son Gian-Carlo -- will arrive in stores January 27, 2004 on Columbia/Legacy /Sony Music Soundtrax, a division of Sony Music.
A Columbia Records catalog staple since it was first issued in 1982, the "One from the Heart"soundtrack album made its initial appearance on CD in 1990. Last year, Coppola turned his attention to the film and commissioned a brand new high definition transfer from the original camera negative, supervised by Academy Award-winning cinematographer Vittorio Storaro.
At the same time, the soundtrack was completely remixed and remastered from the original recording sessions. Two unreleased tracks were unearthed from the sessions, both composed by and featuring Tom Waits, and unavailable anywhere else in his recorded repertoire: "Candy Apple Red" and "Once Upon a Town/Empty Pockets." Joining Waits on vocals for the album sessions was country music star Crystal Gayle, whose decade-long track record of #1 hits had landed her at Columbia Records in 1979.
Waits and Gayle sing together on four numbers: the opening montage's "Once Upon a Town" and "Wages Of Love," "Picking Up After You," and "This One's From the Heart." Gayle takes the spotlight on three cuts: "Is There Any Way Out Of This Dream?," "Old Boyfriends," and "Take Me Home," the latter accompanied by Waits on piano. Waits is the vocalist on "Broken Bicycles," "I Beg Your Pardon," "Little Boy Blue," and "You Can't Unring a Bell," in addition to the bonus tracks.
