"The Matrix Revolutions" Grosses US$43.1 Million in Worldwide Box Office

Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures' unprecedented unveiling of "The Matrix Revolutions" at the exact same moment in time in every major city around the world on November 5, resulted in a worldwide opening-day boxoffice gross of US$43.1 million. The announcement was made today by Veronika Kwan-Rubinek, President, International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures and Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

"The Matrix Revolutions," the widest global opening ever, launched on approximately 18,000 prints in 109 markets, on six continents over multiple time zones. "The Matrix Revolutions" was also released simultaneously in 60 IMAX theatres around the world. In addition to the original English version, the film was translated into 42 different languages including Japanese, French, Russian, Italian, German, Hungarian, Thai, Spanish, Mandarin, Hindi, Tamil, Telegu and Turkish dubs.

During this simultaneous global release, "The Matrix Revolutions" opened at 6 a.m. in Los Angeles, 9 a.m. in New York, 8 a.m. in Mexico, 2 p.m. in the U.K., 3 p.m. in France/Italy/Germany/Spain, 10 p.m. in Taiwan, 11 p.m. in Japan/Korea and 1 a.m. (on November 6) in Sydney and Melbourne. Global totals for IMAX releases are US$803,842, although international territories including Bangkok, Madrid, Tokyo and Mumbai are not yet included in that figure.

Domestically, "The Matrix Revolutions" recorded the industry's second-highest Wednesday opening, as well as the biggest R-rated opening of any November to date.

In "The Matrix Revolutions," the final chapter in the "Matrix" trilogy, the rebels' long quest for freedom culminates in an explosive battle. As the Machine Army wages devastation on Zion, its citizens mount an aggressive defense - but can they stave off the relentless swarm of Sentinels long enough for Neo to harness the full extent of his powers and end the war?

Written and directed by the Wachowski Brothers and produced by Joel Silver, "The Matrix Revolutions" stars Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving and Jada Pinkett Smith.

"The Matrix Revolutions" is released worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.
