As expected, Warner Bros. Pictures' and Village Roadshow Pictures' "The Matrix Reloaded" made motion picture history upon it's release May 15, shattering numerous film industry records. Last weekend's domestic box office receipts for the second chapter in the "Matrix" trilogy totaled $134.3 million, setting a new record for the biggest consecutive four day domestic box office gross in cinema history -- despite the film's R-rating. All of this has motivated fans of the film to flock en masse to the music marketplace, pushing "The Matrix Reloaded: The Album" into the Top 5 on the Top 200 with the biggest non-debut sales gain on the chart. "The Matrix Reloaded: The Album" remains the #1 soundtrack in the nation.
Last week in New York City, prior to the east coast premiere of the film, a cocktail reception was held to celebrate the release of "The Matrix Reloaded: The Album." Royalton, an Ian Schrager Hotel property, hosted the low-key event, which included cast from the film and musicians from the soundtrack. Seen mingling from the film were Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Hugo Weaving (aka: Agent Smith). There too, was film producer Joel Silver and AOL Time Warner Chairman Dick Parsons. Musicians at the party were plenty, including P.O.D. and current MTV TRL favorites Lillix whose debut album on Maverick Records is released May 27, 2003.
