MAY 6, 2004 - “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” Warner Bros. Pictures’ magical adventure tale nominated for three Academy Awards, makes it network television premiere as a four-hour “ABC Special Presentation,” Sunday, May 9, 2004 (7:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network. The feature will be broadcast in HDTV format with 5.1-channel surround sound and also in Spanish.

In exclusive interviews from the Great Hall on the “Harry Potter” set, the film’s stars – Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) – will talk about their work in the movie in interstitials to be featured throughout the telecast. The telecast itself will present an extended version of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” including materials not seen in the original theatrical release. And by exclusive arrangement, at the conclusion of the broadcast, ABC will air a 10-minute sneak peek at the highly anticipated third film in the blockbuster “Harry Potter” series, “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban,” opening in theatres on June 4, 2004.

Based on the first of J.K. Rowling’s popular children’s novels about Harry Potter, the live action family adventure film “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” tells the story of a boy who learns on his 11th birthday that he is the orphaned son of two powerful wizards and possesses unique magical powers of his own. Invited to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Harry embarks on the adventure of a lifetime and finds the home and the family he has never had.

In addition to Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” stars John Cleese as Nearly Headless Nick, Robbie Coltrane as Rubeus Hagrid, Warwick Davis as Professor Flitwick, Richard Griffiths as Uncle Vernon, Richard Harris as Professor Albus Dumbledore, Ian Hart as Professor Quirrell, John Hurt as Mr. Ollivander, Alan Rickman as Professor Snape, Fiona Shaw as Aunt Petunia, Maggie Smith as Professor Minerva McGonagall, and Julie Walters as Mrs. Weasley.

“Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” released in 2001, was directed by Chris Columbus (“Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” “Home Alone” series, “Mrs. Doubtfire”) and the screenplay was written by Steven Kloves (“The Wonder Boys,” “Harry Potter” series) based on the novel by J.K. Rowling. The film is produced by David Heyman. The executive producers are Mark Radcliffe, Michael Barnathan and Duncan Henderson. “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” is a production of 1492 Pictures, Heyday Films and Warner Bros. Pictures.
