Guide Review - "Sweet Home Alabama" DVD Review

In "Sweet Home Alabama," Reese Witherspoon stars as Melanie Carmichael, a New York City fashion designer who must make a tough decision - she must choose between the hunky, down-to-earth Jake (Josh Lucas) and the rich, handsome, upwardly mobile Andrew (Patrick Dempsey). What's a displaced Southern girl to do?

Without Witherspoon, "Sweet Home Alabama" might have been just another so-so romantic comedy, a piece of fluff to catch on cable. With her, the movie's shortcomings can be overlooked as she, along with co-stars Josh Lucas and Patrick Dempsey, manage to take a mediocre script and work a minor miracle. The movie also benefits from a solid cast of supporting players, and great onscreen chemistry between the three lead actors.
