Guide Review - "Secretary" DVD Review
Maggie Gyllenhaal gives a simply amazing performance as Lee Holloway, a girl/woman who battles low self-esteem (among other problems) after her release from an institution. Landing a job as a secretary for lawyer E. Edward Grey (James Spader), she soon finds there is much more to her impeccably dressed boss than meets the eye. When he punishes her for typing errors, Lee discovers something within herself that yearns to be released.
Gyllenhaal and Spader give stellar performances in a film that is as touching as it is sensual. Mixing dark humor, S&M, and first love, "Secretary" puts a spin on lust and love that's seldom captured on film.
