Guide Review - "Veronica Guerin" DVD Review
"Veronica Guerin" takes place in Dublin in the mid-1990s as newspaper reporter Veronica Guerin, tired of covering the same old stories, decides it's time someone took on the growing drug problem and exposed the players who were turning neighborhoods into war zones. The recepient of numerous death threats, Guerin never gave up on her quest to make the streets safer for children. A loving wife and mother, Guerin put her life on the line and paid the ultimate price for doing battle with the drug lords who were destroying her beloved city.Cate Blanchett does a terrific job as Guerin. Equally as impressive are supporting players Ciaran Hinds, Gerard McSorley, Brenda Fricker, Don Wycherley, Barry Barnes, and in a short cameo - Colin Farrell.
As for the bonus features, there's only one deleted scene, which is a bit of a disappointment if you're a fan of deleted scenes and behind-the-scenes footage like I am. However the 'Public Mask, Private Fears' featurette makes for compelling viewing and the video of Veronica Guerin speaking in front of members of the Committee to Protect Journalists is heartbreaking given the outcome of her fight to clean up the streets.
