Gerry movie Matt Damon

"Gerry" on DVD

THINKFilm

The Bottom Line

"Gerry" isn't for everybody. In fact, it's tough to gauge what type of audience will be receptive to this unusual indie film. I enjoyed it because it takes a simple concept, spins it on its head, and comes up with something engaging, fresh and hypnotic.

Pros

  • Definitely something you'll remember watching
  • Truly bizarre

Cons

  • Only one bonus feature - and it's not all that interesting

Description

  • 'Salt Lake Van Sant' - A semi-lengthy featurette that focuses on the filming of one small scene
  • Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound
  • Widescreen and Close-Captioned

Guide Review - "Gerry" Movie - DVD Review

Writer/director Gus Van Sant ("Good Will Hunting") takes two of his famous buddies and plops them down in the desert in this weird story of friendship, loyalty and survival.

Matt Damon and Casey Affleck play best buddies, both nicknamed Gerry, who set out on a short hike and end up wandering the desert lost and disoriented. Without food and water, the pair's simple trek turns into a life-and-death journey that pushes both young men to the limit.

"Gerry" doesn't have any action, the dialogue is simple and mostly ad-libbed, and the setting is stark and uninviting. Yet somehow Van Sant, Damon and Affleck managed to collectively create an entrancing movie that leaves a lasting impression.
