Guide Review - "Casa de Los Babys" DVD Review

Writer/director/editor John Sayles brings us an in-depth look at six American women who travel to Mexico to adopt babies. While they wait for their adoption papers to be processed, each of the women share details of their lives leading up the adoption and what they hope will happen after a child comes into their lives.

Sayles cast a group of outstanding actresses to play the women. Maggie Gyllenhaal, Marcia Gay Harden, Daryl Hannah, Susan Lynch, Mary Steenburgen, and Lila Taylor portray the would-be mothers. Sayles manages to allow each actress a time to really shine, no mean feat when you consider the one and a half hour running time and the amount of character development that kind of restraint normally allows.

Though the "Casa de los Babys" DVD lacks deleted scenes, it does include three featurettes worth checking out and worth renting the DVD to see.
