Universal Studios Home Video
UNIVERSAL CITY, CA, Jan. 14, 2004 - In a monumental worldwide tribute to reach all generations, Universal Studios Home Video will embrace one of the most honored, award-winning films, "Schindler's List," by releasing the film on DVD on March 9, 2004 as part of an overall celebration of the film's legacy. The celebration will also include the 10th anniversary of the Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation, a non profit organization founded by Spielberg just after filming "Schindler's List," and the groundbreaking debut of "Giving Voice," a reality-based program for high-schoolers addressing bias and intolerance. Following the US launch, Universal will release the DVD in over 50 countries around the world. In many territories, the release will be celebrated with regional charitable initiatives and launch events in conjunction with the Shoah Foundation. The release of Steven Spielberg's masterpiece offers audiences a chance to own one of the most highly acclaimed films of all time. Winner of seven Academy Awards(R) including Best Picture and Best Director, "Schindler's List" swept all of the major awards with its staggering depiction of Oskar Schindler -- the war profiteer who risked his life to save the lives of more than 1100 Jews from certain death in Nazi concentration camps.

A Powerful List of Special Features

The "Schindler's List" DVD features powerful bonus materials that further illuminate the film's powerful subject matter. A moving 77 minute documentary produced by the Shoah Foundation entitled Voices From the List offers never-before-seen testimonies from actual Schindler survivors, as they recount their real-life experiences with the man who saved their lives. The DVD also features The Shoah Foundation Story with Steven Spielberg, a behind-the-scenes look at works and accomplishments of the Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation. Its mission is to overcome prejudice, intolerance, and bigotry, and the suffering they cause, through the educational use of the Foundation's visual history testimonies.

A Collector's Gift Set will also be available and is a must-have for the DVD enthusiast, featuring a collectible Plexiglas case enclosing, "Schindler's List: Images of the Steven Spielberg Film," a book of powerful images photographed by David James. Included in the book is a foreword from Steven Spielberg in which he explains how making the film impacted his life. Academy Award(R)-winning composer John Williams' memorable and haunting soundtrack is also included in the gift set. The soundtrack highlights the incredible performance of renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman. The gift set also offers a wide-screen presentation of the film, and a limited-edition senitype.
