Beatrice Rosen and Stark Sands play supporting roles in the romantic comedy "Chasing Liberty," starring Mandy Moore and Matthew Goode. Though neither Rosen or Sands are on the screen that long, both young actors make their limited exposure pay off. Rosen is terrific as Mandy Moore's rebellious friend who lives life on the edge. Sands plays Mandy's flustered date with good humor and helps to set the tone of the movie early on.

BEATRICE ROSEN ('Gabrielle'):

You play Mandy Moore's best friend. Did you two have fun on the set?
We had a lot of fun. Between takes we were laughing the whole time, especially at the concert scene. That was a lot of fun. It was cool, I loved it. It was in Prague so what else could you ask for?

What was it like shooting in Prague?
It’s beautiful. You’ll see in the movie that it’s unbelievable.

Was it tough working with locals?
We had a lot of outside scenes and there were a lot of people. It was a little awkward from time to time because there were tourists, and they were happy to see something going on.

Your character is kind of a wild child. How close is that character to the real you?
Not that close. I can be wild at times - but I don’t have any piercings.

You get to wear a lot of funky make-up.
Yeah, and funky clothes. I like to do that sometimes when I go out, but that’s it. Not in every day life.

Did you keep anything from your wardrobe?
Yes, funky T-shirts, but I don’t really wear them. I live in Paris and I’d feel self-conscious.

This movie’s all about independence and striking out on your own. What was your biggest act of independence?
Being an actress.

How did you parents react?
It was something that I wanted to do all my life but nobody really believed that I was actually going to do it. I was little bit of a rebel for my family at that time.

Do you come from a family that’s into arts?
Not at all. They were kind of like in shock the day I said I really wanted to be an actress.

How would you sum up “Chasing Liberty?”
It makes you dream. You want to fall in love, it’s uplifting, it’s funny. It’s positive and I think people need that. You’re in a good mood when come out of the movie.

STARK SANDS ('Grant'):

Tell me what it was like to play Mandy’s love interest in this, even though it was for a very short while.
It was really more of a first date. But I did get to hold her hand and look lovingly into her eyes – and her, mine – so I can’t say that that wasn’t cool. You know what I mean? She’s a sweet girl, really beautiful, and really great to work with. It was awesome.

This film has a lot to do with breaking away from your parents. What was your first act of rebellion?
Oh gosh. One time my mom, whom I love very much – she’s always very protective, and it got to a boiling point one time and I was so angry that I just left the house. It was a school night and I left the house at 11 at night. I just went for a walk because she, being protective, had put a bug in my car. We all knew about it – me and my brother and sister. We knew that we couldn’t drive anywhere because she could just call and find out where we were. So I went for a walk until about 5 in the morning. I wasn’t going to do anything wrong. I just wanted to make her worry and show her that I was like already a junior in high school, you know, I just wanted to show her… I don’t know what I was trying to do.

Did you make her worry?
Yeah. I came in and she was sitting on the steps waiting for me.

You also have “Shall We Dance” coming up soon. What's your role in that movie?
I play Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon’s son.

Do you do any dancing?
I do a little dancing in the film. It’s not the ballroom style dancing. I have a scene where I take my dad to a hip-hop club with my friends. It’s at a point in the movie where he’s kind of given up on pursuing dance. He sees me dancing and I’m supposed to be this uninhibited, free spirit of a dancer. It inspires him to go back and continue his classes.

And you’re also in “Catch That Kid,” right?
Yes.

Who do you play in that movie?
I play the bad guy. I play the jerk older brother of one of the kids. It was really fun.
