JEFFREY ROSS:

What happened to your leg?
I broke my hip. Don’t tell anybody – it’s so embarrassing (laughing).

How’d you do it?
Ice-skating.

Ice-skating?
A four year-old girl cut in front of me on Christmas Eve ice-skating, and I didn’t want to maul her, so I dropped. At least that’s the version I’m going with.

And the real story is…
I’m suing that little brat (laughing).

So tell me about your role in this movie.
I play the wedding singer in Ben Stiller and Debra Messing’s failed marriage – I don’t want to give away too much. But my grandfather was a wedding and Bar Mitzvah singer, so I definitely got to channel him and it was pretty cool. I sing the first song and I introduce the couple, and I’m in the wedding video that Ben plays during his depression and everything. I had a pretty good role. I got to work with Alec Baldwin, Debra Messing and Ben Stiller. It’s like a dream for a dream for me.

What song do you sing?
(Singing a few bars off-key) “What a Wonderful World.” They dubbed my voice, if you haven’t figured that out by now.

If they had to dub your voice, how did you get the job of playing a wedding singer?
Sheer good looks and I slept with the director. Nothing weird went on, we just held each other.

You didn’t have to work with the ferret then since there’s no ferret involved in the wedding, right?
I would have had to turn the part down. The ferret creeps me out! It’s ratty. It looks like a rat and right now I’m a little scared of stuff coming at me because I have a broken hip. I don’t know. Ferrets - they are like rats with less personality. They are like snakes with fur.

What’s up next for you?
I’m working on a film from when I visited the troops in Iraq in September. Drew Carey and I and a bunch of other guys. It’s a documentary. A very funny film, actually, shot in a very sad place.

Is it tough being funny in a place like that?
Well you have an audience that hasn’t laughed in a long time. The jokes kind of came easy. They were probably the best shows I ever had as a stand-up comedian. No USO tour is complete without a blonde with big boobs, so I brought Drew Carey along. He was even funnier than me.

When is the documentary coming out?
I’m not sure yet. I’m actually doing the sound mix right now. I think before the spring you’ll see it.
