March 20, 2004 - Displaying astonishing versatility with a wide range of upcoming films, Tom Jane ('Frank Castle' in "The Punisher") combines a leading man's profile with a character actor's art of performance.
Janes next project to hit theatres is "Stander" for director Bronwen Hughes, which was acquired by Newmarket Films after critical acclaim at the 2003 Toronto Film Festival. Based on a true story, Jane stars in the title role as a South African police officer who, in the early 1980s, turned to a life of crime, robbing as many as four banks a day.
Jane's other recent film credits include the romantic comedy "The Sweetest Thing," starring opposite Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate and Selma Blair, "Eden," opposite Samantha Morton, and the independent thriller "Under Suspicion," opposite Morgan Freeman, Gene Hackman and Monica Belucci, which premiered at the 2000 Cannes Film festival. Most recently, Jane starred in Lawrence Kasdan's "Dreamcatcher," opposite Morgan Freeman, Tom Sizemore, Donnie Wahlberg and Timothy Olyphant.
Jane is well known for his starring role in the Renny Harlin thriller, "Deep Blue Sea," also starring Samuel L. Jackson, Saffron Burrows and LL Cool J. He also received critical praise for his performance in Paul Thomas Anderson's "Boogie Nights," opposite Mark Wahlberg, Julianne Moore, John C. Reilly, and William H. Macy. The cast was nominated for a 1998 SAG Award for Best Ensemble Performance by a Cast in a Theatrical Motion Picture.
On stage, Jane received critical notice as Tom in Tennessee Williams' "The Glass Menagerie" at the Laguna Playhouse and Chris in Arthur Miller's "All My Sons" at the Odyssey Theater. His other theatre credits include "Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie?" at Baltimore Center Stage, "Pastels" at the Studio Theater, "Strange Snow" at the Sal Romeo Theater, "The Idiot" and "Jews Without Money" at the Whitefire Theater, and "Roy's Coffee Shop" at the Road Theater.
