Daniel Radcliffe on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

We all know by now, six films into the Harry Potter franchise, that Harry Potter is basically a pretty serious guy. Sure, he's been known to crack a few jokes and he's quick to smile. But let's face it, it's hard to be the class clown when you're the chosen one. A royal battle with Voldemort looming on the horizon can dampen anyone's spirits. But Daniel Radcliffe, the actor who'll forever be associated with Harry Potter, admits he's not nearly as serious as the character he plays.

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry has to take a potion that alters his state of mind. That altered state was something Radcliffe enjoyed portraying. "To be honest, I just let the more manic side of myself that I suppress for 23 hours of every day loose for a while on set and just became a kind of uncontrollable, vaguely irritating but sort of vaguely amusing person that I sort of keep hidden," said Radcliffe at the press conference for the Warner Bros Pictures film. "I just let him out and run mad for a few days and it was great fun to be able to, actually. It is a side to the character that hasn�t really been seen before. We always sit next to each other, so [producer] David Heyman leaned over to me and said, 'That�s my favorite piece of acting that you do in this film.' Box Office Report - July 10-12

Bruno had many admirers this weekend, although most of them turned out on the film's opening day. The R-rated comedy (which really pushes the R) scored a $30 million opening weekend, besting Borat's opening numbers by about $4 million. That Sacha Baron Cohen comedy, made for just $18 million, went on to do $260 million worldwide before exiting theaters. Bruno's budget was much bigger (estimated to be around $42 million) - it costs more to be fashionable, I guess. Meanwhile 20th Century Fox's teen comedy, I Love You, Beth Cooper, was ignored by moviegoers, opening in 7th place with a mere $5 million.

Ryan Reynolds is 'Green Lantern'

Variety says it's official. Warner Bros Pictures has, after lengthy debates and lots of speculation, cast Ryan Reynolds to star in The Green Lantern. Reynolds won out over Jared Leto (who just finished up Mr Nobody), Bradley Cooper (hot off of The Hangover), and pop star/actor Justin Timberlake (just plain hot). Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) is all set to direct the live-action film based on the DC Comics character, with the studio eyeing an early 2010 production start date.

Reynolds scored box office success this year playing alongside his buddy Sandra Bullock in the romantic comedy The Proposal and playing Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Reynolds even earned his own Deadpool spin-off from the X-Men franchise after 20th Century Fox saw how audiences reacted to his work in Wolverine.

Warner Bros is aiming for a June 17, 2011 release of The Green Lantern.

How much do I loathe I Love You, Beth Cooper? Let me break it down for you. It's a misguided, miscast, misleading, mistake of a film. I don't like, much less love, Beth Cooper. Every teen movie about a geek falling for the cool kid in school provides fodder for I Love You, Beth Cooper, however what Beth Cooper does is take bits from every successful high school comedy and remove anything funny. Instead, screenwriter Larry Doyle (Looney Tunes: Back in Action, Duplex) and director Chris Columbus load this thing with characters you don't care about, can't stand, and just want to make shut up and go away. Aaron Sorkin Rewrites Moneyball

Steven Soderbergh struck out and now Columbia Pictures is calling in a pinch hitter. Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (Charlie Wilson's War) has been handed the job of putting Moneyball back on track after the studio put the start of production on hold over differences in the script and the direction of the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Soderbergh is no longer on deck to direct, yet Columbia Pictures is hoping to get Moneyball up and running shortly.

The road to the big screen has been a rocky one for Moneyball. At one point David Frankel (Marley & Me, The Devil Wears Prada) was brought in to direct from a Steve Zaillian (American Gangster) script. Then the studio decided they'd rather go with a script from Soderbergh, who would also direct. Now Soderbergh's gone and it's back to square one, with Sorkin having a go at Zallian's script.

Johnny Depp on Alice in Wonderland, Pirates 4 and The Lone Ranger

Johnny Depp has been extremely busy recently with Public Enemies having hit theaters on July 1st and production just wrapping up on his latest collaborative effort with filmmaker Tim Burton - Alice in Wonderland. He also just completed work on The Rum Diary directed by Bruce Robinson and based on the novel by Hunter S Thompson. And of course there's another Pirates of the Caribbean movie looming on the horizon, as well as The Lone Ranger (he'll be playing Tonto).

The super busy actor attended the LA press day for Universal Pictures' Public Enemies and answered a few questions about his upcoming projects, including playing The Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland and climbing back into character as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean #4. Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster Reunite for The Beaver

At first glance I thought it was a Leave it to Beaver movie Mel Gibson had signed up for. Maybe it's all the toy and TV inspired films that seem to be springing up like wildflowers that sent my mind in the wrong direction. But no, Gibson is set to star opposite his Maverick co-star Jodie Foster in The Beaver, according to Variety.

First-time screenwriter Kyle Killen wrote the script which follows a man who finds that by wearing a beaver hand-puppet he's able to cope with depression. Gibson will play the beaver-wearer. Foster will play his wife and direct the film. It's been a while since the two-time Oscar-winning actress last helmed a film. Foster's most recent job behind the camera was in 1995 with Home for the Holidays (one of my favorite Thanksgiving-themed films).

Chris Columbus wrote Goonies and Gremlins and Young Sherlock Holmes and he's directed such big-budget films as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and Rent. But with the teen comedy I Love You, Beth Cooper starring Hayden Panettiere, Paul Rust, and Jack T Carpenter, Columbus returns to the world of modestly budgeted films (he had $18 million to work with on Beth Cooper).

"You have to go back to Adventures in Babysitting. That�s where you�ve got to start," said Columbus, explaining the appeal of 20th Century Fox's I Love You, Beth Cooper at the film's LA press day. I used the word fearless to describe Sacha Baron Cohen and Borat, and that word applies equally as well to Brüno. But Brüno takes everything to an even crazier level. If Borat offended you, Brüno will leave you flabbergasted and morally outraged. If you believe Borat was the funniest film of 2006, then Brüno is a sure bet for one of the top spots on your list in 2009. Controversial, uncomfortable, and hilarious, Brüno enthusiastically attacks prejudices and intolerance, and tosses in jabs at celebrities who'll do anything for attention just for good measure.
