Prince Caspian Prepares to Do Battle at the Box Office
Tuesday May 13, 2008
Walt Disney Pictures launches The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, the second film of the Narnia franchise, into theaters on May 16th. The first Narnia movie, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, earned $65 million over its opening weekend back in 2005, however that movie hit theaters in December when the competition from big-budget action movies wasn't nearly as stiff. It's likely Prince Caspian will knock Iron Man out of first place (something Speed Racer failed to do), but with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull looming on the horizon, Prince Caspian may not hold the throne for more than a week. While Prince Caspian's target audience isn't exactly the same as Indiana Jones, there's enough of a crossover that the fourth film of the Indy franchise should impact Prince Caspian's box office numbers. Time will tell if Disney made the right move by releasing Prince Caspian during the crowded summer season...
