The summer of 2007 was loaded with sequels, but this year's batch of action and comedy movies - with just a few exceptions - aren't following in the paths of established franchises. The fourth Indiana Jones film is finally hitting theaters, Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale are reuniting for their second Batman movie, and the third movie in The Mummy franchise is back with a new mommy in place of Rachel Weisz. And while Get Smart isn't a sequel, it is based on a classic - and beloved - TV series, so that sort of counts as being a part of an existing franchise. But the rest of this summer's big releases are fresh scripts based on original concepts or are adaptations of bestselling comics or books. The summer of 2008 looks like a fantastic season for fans of popcorn flicks who love to escape the heat by taking refuge in a cool theater. Read On...
