One on One with John Dahl, the Director of "The Great Raid"
Wednesday August 10, 2005
"The Great Raid" is the true story of the 6th Ranger Battalion and their daring mission to go behind enemy lines and liberate over 500 American prisoners-of-war from the notorious Cabanatuan Japanese POW camp during World War II.Filming of "The Great Raid" began in January 2002 and finished in November of that same year. Director John Dahl said it then took a year and a half to edit the film. "The Great Raid" was listed on Miramax's release schedule for 2004 but got bumped to 2005. Asked about being moved to 2005, director John Dahl explained, "I think we had a million feet of film – just an amazing amount - you know it was 97 days of shooting for us and 60 days of shooting for the second unit, so a lot of film. Then it had three stories that we were kind of like having to juxtapose. We finished it probably like last summer and then Miramax was kind of going through what’s best described as a messy divorce with Disney, so I think it was just sort of like some politics going on between the Weinstein’s and Disney." Interview with "Hustle & Flow" Star Terrence Howard
"Hustle & Flow" may be the movie that defines Terrence Howard’s career. As DJay, a street-wise Detroit hustler who has one last shot at realizing his dreams, Howard delivers a riveting performance that’s unrelenting in its honesty and totally mesmerizing.Howard followed up a co-starring role in 2004’s "Ray" with a terrific performance in this year’s indie darling, "Crash." Not one to rest on his laurels – or to choose the easy path – Howard then took the lead in "Hustle & Flow," a gritty, unflinching look at life on the streets of Memphis. "Crash" and "Hustle & Flow" have received favorable responses from critics, and Howard’s performances in both films are earning him much-deserved kudos and recognition.

"The Skeleton Key" Premiere Coverage
Kate Hudson looked absolutely gorgeous as she joined her "The Skeleton Key" co-stars Gena Rowlands, Peter Sarsgaard, and John Hurt for the World Premiere of "The Skeleton Key," hosted by Universal Pictures at Universal Studios in Hollywood. Dressed in a slinky, backless gown, Hudson joked about having to get back in shape for the role of 'Caroline' after giving birth to her son Ryder in early 2004. Hudson also spoke to me about taking on her first role in a thriller and playing a much more physically demanding character. Peter Sarsgaard Interview - "The Skeleton Key"
Peter Sarsgaard plays affable estate lawyer Luke Marshall in "The Skeleton Key," a supernatural thriller directed by Iain Softley and starring Kate Hudson, Gena Rowlands, and John Hurt. Catching up with the critically acclaimed actor at the World Premiere of "The Skeleton Key," I had the chance to find out why he was attracted to the part of a Southern lawyer in "The Skeleton Key," the reason it was necessary to film this movie in New Orleans, and weird happenings on the film's set:Summer Glau on "Serenity" and "Wonder Woman"
I still can't believe they cancelled "Firefly." It was smartly written, original, and featured a compelling group of actors. But even though the series wasn't given a chance by the network, it managed to earn an intensely loyal following in just a matter of months. It's in large part do to those loyal - and vocal - "Firefly" fans that the movie "Serenity" was greenlit. The entire principal cast of "Firefly" made their way to the movie, and every cast member I've interviewed has said they'd love to play these characters again and again and again.Summer Glau, who plays River in the series and in the movie, stopped and chatted with me at the World Premiere of "The Skeleton Key." Check out what Glau had to say about working with Joss Whedon, "Serenity" fans, and "Wonder Woman:"
