Who Will Be the New Batman? Is Ryan Gosling a Possible Contender?

By August 5, 2013

Follow me on:

Ryan Gosling the New Batman RumorChristian Bale says he's made his last appearance as the Dark Knight - unless Christopher Nolan comes up with a new Batman movie - so now Warner Bros is on the hunt for a new actor to take on the iconic role. According to multiple sources including The Hollywood Reporter, among those who are said to be on the short list of potential Batman contenders are Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Joe Manganiello (yes, Alcide from True Blood), Richard Armitage ('Thorin' in The Hobbit films), and Matthew Goode. Goode previously worked on director Zack Snyder's Watchmen and since Snyder's returning for the Superman sequel that will feature Batman, he may have an inside track. However, it's far, far too early to really take any of these potential Batman lists seriously as the script hasn't even been written yet.

Snyder and Warner Bros will apparently be searching to cast a Batman in his late 30s or early 40s. Gosling's a bit young at 32 and Goode still has a boyish face at 35, but Brolin (45), Manganiello (36), and Armitage (41) could easily play late 30s/40ish. Still, my vote goes to Christian Bale. A Batman and Superman movie with Bale and Henry Cavill could deliver everything any fanboy/fangirl would want. Any decision other than somehow dragging Bale back into the Batman world would seem like settling for second best, especially if this new film is attempting a tone similar to The Dark Knight.

Warner Bros is targeting a summer 2015 release of the Man of Steel sequel with Batman.

I really hope they go for someone younger. They can bypass the origin with someone in their early 30′s. Bruce didn’t become Batman till he was about 27 so cast someone 32 and boom… 5 years experience as Batman. Hell, I’m sure they can even throw Robin in there with that much in between time, if they really wanted. I’d have to disagree with you on Bale. Christian Bales Batman does not belong in a universe that Superman exists. Bale, while outstanding is not the same Batman from the comics. Batman is extremely intelligent (IQ around 200)has pushed his average body to the brink of human perfection, to the point where he can bench press 1000 pounds. The list goes on. Let me supplement that by saying, of course this is a made up character, but nonetheless, Bales version of Batman is not tough enough, clever enough, or skilled enough to compete with Superman or contribute to the Justice League in any way (he’s broke now, remember). At the end of the day I would be pretty dang upset if they cast Bale, or Joe Levitt for that matter. I think Nolan’s universe should stand alone as the quintessential Batman trilogy. But now it’s time for something new and spectacular!
