Although this weekend's total box office take didn't come close to the same weekend in 2012 (that's when The Hunger Games opened), business was better than expected thanks to a solid but not spectacular performance by The Croods and a surprisingly high take by Olympus Has Fallen. According to Box Office Mojo, Olympus Has Fallen scored the highest opening for an action film this year. In addition, the FilmDistrict release received high marks from audiences and now sits as director Antoine Fuqua's biggest opening to date.
On the opposite end of the box office opening weekend scale comes Admission. The Tina Fey/Paul Rudd comedy flunked out in theaters, earning a measly $6.5 million.
