Jesse Eisenberg's returning to provide the voice of a rare macaw named Blu in 20th Century Animation's Rio 2, the sequel to the 2011 animated family-friend comedy. Also returning from the original movie's cast are Oscar nominee Anne Hathaway, Django Unchained star Jamie Foxx, Jemaine Clement, will.i.am, Tracy Morgan, George Lopez, Leslie Mann, Rodrigo Santoro, Bebel Gilberto, and Jake T. Austin. Rio's writer/director Carlos Saldanha will be back to helm the animated comedy sequel.
New to the colorful world of parrots, pigeons, and other assorted feathered friends are Andy Garcia, Bruno Mars, Kristin Chenoweth, Rita Moreno, Amandla Stenberg, Rachel Crow, Pierce Gagnon, and Natalie Morales. Twentieth Century Fox Animation President Vanessa Morrison announced the new cast members but didn't provide information on what characters they'll be voicing.
The official synopsis: "In Rio 2 we find Blu, Jewel and their three kids living the perfect domesticated life in that magical city. When Jewel decides the kids need to learn to live like real birds, she insists the family venture into the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in with his new neighbors, he worries he may lose Jewel and the kids to the call of the wild."
Rio was released on April 8, 2011 to a $39 million opening weekend domestically. Fox is planning a March 20, 2014 release of Rio 2 internationally. North American audiences will have to wait until April 11, 2014 to check it out.
