David O. Russell has signed up to direct The Ends of the Earth, a romantic drama set to star Jennifer Lawrence. The two previously worked together on the Oscar-nominated, critically acclaimed comedy/drama Silver Linings Playbook, and Lawrence was just added to the cast of Russell's Abscam film. That movie will find Lawrence reuniting with her Silver Linings Playbook co-star Bradley Cooper.
The Ends of the Earth is set up at The Weinstein Company (the company behind Silver Linings Playbook) and Argo screenwriter Chris Terrio wrote the script.
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Russell talked about what's so special about Lawrence. "Jennifer possesses a self-deprecating humor that made all of the cast and crew feel at ease," said Russell. "She is that kind of person."
Russell also paid Lawrence this compliment: "She is the most dedicated person I know. She is devoted to her family and they have been the true inspiration for her character and integrity. Her acting is effortless and she always makes it look easy."
The Weinstein Company offered this basic synopsis of the story back in August 2012 when they announced Lawrence's attachment to the film: "In The Ends of the Earth, powerful oil tycoon Ernest Marland loses everything after engaging in a controversial love affair with his adopted daughter Lydie."
