This Valentine's Day weekend finds two romantic movies and one anti-love story. First up, the love stories: Warner Bros is hoping to launch a new franchise with the release of Beautiful Creatures starring Alice Englert, Alden Ehrenreich, Emmy Rossum, Jeremy Irons, Emma Thompson and Viola Davis. Based on the bestselling young adult book series, Beautiful Creatures is a supernatural romance set in the South with witches (known as casters). Competing with Beautiful Creatures to be the go-to date night movie this weekend is Safe Haven, the latest film adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks romance novel. Featuring pretty people and pretty scenery, Safe Haven plays things super safe and predictable. The anti-love story mentioned above would be the fifth film of the Die Hard franchise: A Good Day to Die Hard. Bruce Willis tackles the role of John McClane in an action franchise that's been around for 25 years.
So, you ask, which movie should you see? If you absolutely have to pay money for one of the new releases this weekend, I'd go with Beautiful Creatures first, Die Hard second, and Safe Haven only if you're forced to because the other two new releases are sold out. But if you really want to catch the best date movie currently playing in theaters, then spend your money on the zombie romantic comedy Warm Bodies.
