The cute little yellow guys from 2010's Despicable Me and from the upcoming Despicable Me 2 are getting their own film. And the spin-off has landed Oscar winner Sandra Bullock to provide the lead voice in the animated family-friendly, minion-friendly comedy, Minions.
Bullock will be voicing a human villain - not a minion - in the 3D comedy.
Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures are targeting a December 19, 2014 release date. Despicable Me 2 is hitting theaters on July 3, 2013.
The preliminary synopsis: "In Minions, we discover that Minions have actually existed throughout history, always seeking out the most despicable master to serve. At a time before they met their current boss Gru, the Minions encountered Scarlet Overkill, a stylish and bad-ass super-villain bent on world domination."
Pierre Coffin (director of Despicable Me 1 and 2) and Kyle Balda (The Lorax) are directing from a screenplay by Brian Lynch.
Bullock has The Heat and Gravity heading to theaters this year.
