How the Grinch Stole ChristmasIf anyone can bring Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas to the big screen with a film that remains faithful to the source material, it would be the Illumination Entertainment folks. And The Hollywood Reporter says that Illumination and Universal Pictures are in fact working on a new animated version of the classic Christmas story.

Illumination is the company behind the 2012 The Lorax, Despicable Me, and Hop.

According to THR, Peter Candeland will be making his feature film directorial debut with the project. Audrey Geissel, Dr. Seuss' (real name: Theodor Geisel) widow, will be executive producing with Illumination's Chris Melendandri (who, by the way, executive produced Horton Hears a Who!).

Dr. Seuss' beloved story of an outcast who tries to steal Christmas was previously made into a live-action feature film starring Jim Carrey as the Grinch back in 2000.
