If anyone can bring Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas to the big screen with a film that remains faithful to the source material, it would be the Illumination Entertainment folks. And The Hollywood Reporter says that Illumination and Universal Pictures are in fact working on a new animated version of the classic Christmas story.
According to THR, Peter Candeland will be making his feature film directorial debut with the project. Audrey Geissel, Dr. Seuss' (real name: Theodor Geisel) widow, will be executive producing with Illumination's Chris Melendandri (who, by the way, executive produced Horton Hears a Who!).
Dr. Seuss' beloved story of an outcast who tries to steal Christmas was previously made into a live-action feature film starring Jim Carrey as the Grinch back in 2000.
