In an interesting move that plays into the whole "we're targeting a younger crowd of movie fans" theory of what's happening with the 2013 Oscars, producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced the cast of The Avengers will be presenting at the 85th Academy Awards. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo (no Chris Hemsworth or Scarlett Johansson?) will assemble on stage - likely minus their superhero costumes - to present an Oscar. Zadan and Meron didn't say which category The Avengers cast members will be announcing, just that they will be together on stage.
Making the announcement, Zadan and Meron stated: "We are happy to re-unite the Avengers cast to present on our show. Audiences who enjoyed the year's biggest box office hit will be excited to see these terrific actors back together again."
Evans has never appeared on the Oscar telecast before however his The Avengers cast mates are familiar with Hollywood's biggest night. Downey's a two-time nominee (Chaplin, Tropic Thunder) and Jackson, currently on screen in Django Unchained, earned a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his performance in Pulp Fiction. Renner's been nominated twice (The Hurt Locker, The Town) and Ruffalo earned a nomination for his work in The Kids Are All Right.
The 2013 Oscar ceremony will be held on February 24, 2013.
