In a galaxy really, really close, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed there will indeed be stand-alone Star Wars movies. First up, Jar-Jar Binks will get his own feature film, delving into the much-loved character's background. It's also been confirmed the entire movie will be told in voice-over and Jar-Jar will be the only character seen on screen. And that is a joke. Please, no hate mail from Star Wars fans.
Speaking with CNBC, Iger had this to say on the topic of stand-alone Star Wars films: "I can confirm to you today that in fact we are working on a few stand-alone films. Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga. So, we still plan to make Star Wars 7, 8, and 9 roughly over a six year period of time starting in 2015. But there are going to be a few other films released in that period of time, too."
In line first Yoda will be, rumor has it. However, Disney and Iger are not commenting on that.
The good news in all this is that Disney's bringing in Kasdan to work on the stand-alone projects. He was co-writer of both Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
