Love this pairing and hope they actually both commit to the project. The Hollywood Reporter says Noomi Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Prometheus) and Tom Hardy (The Dark Knight Rises, Warrior) are in talks to tackle lead roles in the thriller, Child 44. If they do both sign on the dotted line, Child 44 would make two films Rapace and Hardy will work on together (the other being Michaël R. Roskam's Animal Rescue).
Ridley Scott is producing Child 44, a project that's been in the works for a while but now appears to actually be moving forward. Safe House's Daniel Espinosa will direct from a script by Richard Price who adapted the book by Tom Rob Smith.
Thomas' book is set in Stalin's Soviet Union and follows a disgraced MGB officer named Leo Demidov who must try and uncover the whereabouts of a murderer the State won't admit exists in order to save his own life as well as the lives of his family.
If all the pieces come together, filming could begin later this year.
