The Brian Wilson film Love & Mercy is moving forward. Paul Dano, recently seen in Looper and Ruby Sparks, has been cast as Brian Wilson - founder of the Beach Boys and musical genius - in Love & Mercy. Wilson's life could provide enough material for a mini-series, so it'll be interesting to see what events and years will be included in Oscar nominee Oren Moverman's (The Messenger) script.
Dano will be playing Wilson in his younger years and another yet-to-be-cast actor will play the older Wilson. Wilson's music will fill the soundtrack of the film, however the movie's not described as a biopic but instead it's an "unconventional look at seminal moments in Wilson's life."
Bill Pohlad is directing.
Brian Wilson himself talked about casting Dano to play him in Love & Mercy: "I am thrilled that Paul Dano has signed on to play me during one of my most creative explosions and most fulfilling musical times in my career. I still can't believe how cool it is that my life will be portrayed on the big screen and to have Bill Pohlad as the captain of the Sloop John B is amazing! It just makes me feel so humble. I can't wait to see it with a full tub of buttered popcorn."
