This makes sense. Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana star in the sci-fi action franchise Star Trek (as Captain James T Kirk and Uhura, respectively) so they have a sci-fi tie-in going for them as they host the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Scientific and Technical Awards set for Saturday, February 9, 2013. The event isn't televised - although portions normally slip into the Oscar telecast - as the recipients of the Sci-Tech Oscars aren't recognizable names to most people outside of their colleagues, friends, and family. However, the winners do represent achievements in feature films that have made the world better for moviegoers and filmmakers alike.
Pine and Saldana will present 25 awards at the event.
Announcing Pine and Saldana as hosts, Academy President Hawk Koch stated: "We are thrilled to have Chris and Zoe host the Sci-Tech Awards. Their film experience with the kind of technical advancements these awards honor makes them the perfect pair for the job."
Pine and Saldana recently wrapped up work on Star Trek Into Darkness, their second journey into the final frontier. Star Trek Into Darkness is set for a May 17, 2013 release.
