Peter Jackson's return to the land of hobbits, elves, and dwarfs with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey wound up impressing the Visual Effects Society to the tune of seven nominations. The Annual VES Awards are dedicated to recognizing "outstanding visual effects artistry" with the VES Chair Jeffrey A. Okun explaining the purpose of the awards. "Visual effects have helped define the experience of going to the cinema. Every year, visual effects artists put their technical skill, ingenuity and passion to work in the creation of images that astound and move us," stated Okun. "We congratulate all of our nominees on their amazing accomplishments in - and contributions to - the worlds of film, animation, television, special venue and games."
Winners will be announced on February 5, 2013.
