One of the two big Steve Jobs biopics in the works has landed with Open Road Films. jOBS, starring Ashton Kutcher, will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival before heading to theaters in April, and Open Road Films confirmed the pick-up today in collaboration with Five Star Feature Films.
The official synopsis: "jOBS details the major moments and defining characters that influenced Steve Jobs on a daily basis from 1971 through 2000. jOBS plunges into the depths of his character, creating an intense dialogue-driven story that is as much a sweeping epic as it is an immensely personal portrait of Steve Jobs' life. The filmmakers were granted unprecedented access during shooting to the historic garage in Palo Alto, that served as the birthplace to Apple Inc."
Directed by Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote), jOBS also features Dermot Mulroney as second Apple CEO Mike Markkula, Josh Gad as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Lukas Haas as Apple engineer Daniel Kottke, J.K. Simmons and Matthew Modine as former Apple CEO John Sculley.
The other Steve Jobs biopic is in the script stage, with Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) working on the project set up at Sony Pictures.
