Can't say I'm the least bit surprised or disappointed with this weekend's box office take. Audiences are showering the latest Bond, James Bond movie with love, pushing Skyfall back into first place and pushing the final Twilight movie into third (Rise of the Guardians rose to the 2nd position). And not only is Skyfall continuing to be popular with moviegoers, it's also earned overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and could even nab an Oscar nomination or two.
Meanwhile, Gerard Butler's last foray into the world of rom-coms - Playing for Keeps - failed to attract any attention. The film now stands at a 2% fresh rating (only 1 critic, Leonard Maltin, gave it a positive review out of 58 critics on Rotten Tomatoes). This box office bomb comes on the heels of Butler's Chasing Mavericks which also dramatically underperformed in theaters. Perhaps it's time for Butler to let someone else pick his film projects?
