Paramount revealed the official synopsis for what's expected to be one of 2013's biggest action films, Star Trek Into Darkness, and it appears to confirm Benedict Cumberbatch's playing Gary Mitchell and that he's the main villain:

The second Star Trek from J.J. Abrams reunites returning cast members Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Simon Pegg, and Bruce Greenwood. Paramount's set a May 17, 2013 release in 2D and 3D.
