No, but is any remake really necessary? This Red Dawn had a rocky road to navigate on its way to a theatrical release. Filmed in 2009 before Chris Hemsworth became known as the guy who plays Thor and before Josh Hutcherson developed a fan base that plasters his photos all over their Facebook pages, Red Dawn was the victim of a studio's financial problems. Then, it was the victim of reshoots and a major change in the invading force depicted in the movie. After all of its problems, and the whole 'remake' stigma, it might have just been better to go the direct-to-DVD route.
Hitting theaters today, Red Dawn was directed by Dan Bradley and is rated PG-13 for sequences of intense war violence and action, and for language.
