Fans wanted him to direct the return of Star Wars - Star Wars: Episode VII - but apparently Brad Bird isn't going to take the job if it's offered. Bird, director of The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, responded on Twitter to a direct question on whether he'd consider directing Star Wars: Episode VII:
"@rsavenell: You are on people's lists as top choice for Star Wars, yet haven't confirmed. Please end this tease!" Not doing Star Wars."
Instead, Bird sounded excited about what he actually is doing next: a sci-fi film called 1952, although he did praise the people who are officially working on the next Star Wars movie. After tweets from Star Wars fans saying he slammed Star Wars (which he didn't), Bird clarified his position on the upcoming Episode VII:
"That said, Michael Arndt is a fantastic writer and Kathy Kennedy is a brilliant producer. I will be first in line to see the new STAR WARS."
