Family audiences were apparently just waiting for something worth checking out as Disney's Wreck-It Ralph opened to big numbers, even drawing in East Coast audiences looking for an escape from dealing with Hurricane Sandy. The new family-friendly comedy now stands as Disney's biggest non-holiday weekend opening for an animated film (not counting what they've put out with Pixar). And while much of its appeal has to do with our nostalgia for old-school video games, according to BoxOfficeMojo the audience was primarily made up of people 25 and under.
Meanwhile, Paramount Pictures' Oscar push for Flight seems to be paying off early. The dramatic thriller opened in just 1800 theaters yet still performed way above expectations.
Coming in on the lower end of expectations was Universal Pictures' action film The Man With the Iron Fists, which had to settle for a disappointing 4th place opening weekend finish.
