Huge Tolkien fan Stephen Colbert has accomplished what every Hobbit fanboy/fangirl would pay to have accomplished - he's filmed a cameo for one of the three Hobbit movies. Colbert visited Peter Jackson's set and apparently wound up with a role in Hobbit #2 (The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug) or #3 (The Hobbit: There and Back Again), according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Colbert, who speaks Elvish, didn't come out and confirm his upcoming appearance in a Hobbit movie with Playboy magazine, but he did hint at it happening. "I flew out and watched them shoot some scenes and went to some locations. I saw a 25-minute cut, and it was amazing. Jackson knows I'm a big fan of the films," said Colbert. The Hollywood Reporter has since been able to confirm with an inside source that Colbert [no, that's not Colbert on the poster - that's The Hobbit star Martin Freeman] did indeed shoot a cameo, however it's unknown what character he plays or if he got to put his Elvish to good use for his role.
Hobbit #1 (An Unexpected Journey) will hit theaters on December 14, 2012. Smaug follows on December 13, 2013 and There and Back Again finishes up the Hobbit trilogy on July 18, 2014.
