Has the Paranormal Activity franchise now outlived its welcome? Possibly, as PA #4 didn't come close to matching the opening weekend numbers of Paranormal Activity 3 or even Paranormal Activity 2. The low-budget horror movie franchise kicked off in 2007 with a budget of less than $15,000 and made $183 million before Paranormal Activity #1 exited theaters. Paranormal Activity 2 was released in 2010 with a slightly bigger budget ($3 million-ish) and grossed $40 million during its opening weekend, picking up $174 million overall. The third film of the series arrived in 2011 to a $52.6 million opening weekend and passed the $200 million mark during its theatrical release. Paranormal Activity 4 only managed a $30 million take over its first three days in release, considerably less than its immediate predecessor. However, rumor has it Paramount's not ready to give up on the franchise and is already planning a Paranormal Activity 5 for 2013.
Also not living up to past films of the franchise was the new Alex Cross movie. Tyler Perry's action film couldn't match either of the two Alex Cross movies - Kiss the Girls, Along Came a Spider - that had Morgan Freeman in the lead role.
