Could The Descendants' breakout star Shailene Woodley be the new Mary Jane (previously played by Kirsten Dunst) in the next Spider-Man movie? It's looking like that might actually happen as The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed Woodley's been offered the role. The casting tidbit comes hot on the heels of the news that director Marc Webb, Andrew Garfield, and Emma Stone are all back in place for the Spider-Man sequel.
Woodley's casting means there will definitely be a Mary Jane - Gwen - Peter Parker love triangle going on. And if Variety's correct, and we have no reason to doubt they're not, the upcoming Spider-Man will see the re-introduction of Harry Osborne (played by James Franco in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man series). Electro is rumored to be a/the villain.
No real details have emerged on the script which was rewritten by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Transformers, Star Trek, Cowboys and Aliens). Columbia Pictures is aiming for a May 2, 2014 release of the 3D action drama.
In addition to The Descendants, Woodley's credits include the ABC Family series The Secret Life of the American Teenager and The Spectacular Now.
