DreamWorks Animation Announces 12 Upcoming Films

DreamWorks Animation has a new home at 20th Century Fox and an extremely ambitious slate of upcoming feature films to go with its new deal. DreamWorks Animation just revealed their schedule for 2013 through 2016, announcing they're planning on releasing 12 CG animated films over the course of the next four years. Like I said, it's an extremely ambitious schedule and something no other animation house has ever attempted.

Announcing the slate of upcoming releases, Fox Filmed Entertainment CEOs and Chairmen Jim Gianopulos and Tom Rothman stated: "We have had the privilege not only to view many of these films in their various stages but also to meet the incredible leadership teams behind each one, and we are very confident about DreamWorks Animation's robust future slate. We are truly excited about our new partnership and bringing these extraordinary films to audiences around the world."

Per the studios, here's the scoop on DreamWorks Animation's upcoming releases:

The Croods - Release Date: March 22, 2013.
Writer/Directors: Chris Sanders and Kirk DeMicco.
Voice Cast: Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Emma Stone, Catherine Keener, Clark Duke, and Cloris Leachman
Synopsis: "When their cave is destroyed, the Crood family is forced to embark on an epic adventure into a pre-historic world in search of a new home. With the help of a brash, know-it-all nomad named Guy, the Croods learn to conquer their fears and discover what it takes to survive - each other."

Turbo - Release Date: July 19, 2013
Director: David Soren (it's based on his idea) - Writers: Soren, Robert Siegel and Darren Lemke
Voice Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, Michael Pena, Luis Guzmán, Bill Hader, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Michelle Rodriguez, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith, Snoop Lion and Samuel L. Jackson
Synopsis: "Turbo is the story of a garden snail with an impossible dream: to win the Indy 500. When a freak accident gives him extraordinary speed, Turbo sets out to try to make this dream come true."

Mr. Peabody & Sherman - Release Date: November 1, 2013
Director: Rob Minkoff - Writer: Craig Wright
Voice Cast: Ty Burrell, Max Charles, Stephen Colbert, Allison Janney, Ariel Winter and Stephen Tobolowsky
Synopsis: "Based on Jay Ward's classic cartoon, Mr. Peabody is the world's smartest person who happens to be a dog. When his "pet" boy Sherman uses their time traveling WABAC machine without permission, events in history spiral out of control to disastrous and comical results."

Me and My Shadow - Release Date: March 14, 2014
Director: Alessandro Carloni - Writers: Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember
Voice Cast: Josh Gad, Bill Hader and Kate Hudson
Synopsis: "Dan, our hero's shadow, yearns for a more exciting life but happens to be stuck with Daniel Grubb, a timid guy with an aversion to adventure. When both of their lives are put in danger, Dan is forced to take control of Daniel, commencing a madcap adventure in which they both learn the meaning of true friendship."

How to Train Your Dragon 2 and How to Train Your Dragon 3 - Release Dates: June 20, 2014 and June 18, 2016

Voice Cast: Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller and Kristen Wiig
Synopsis: "Also inspired by the book series by Cressida Cowell."

Happy Smekday! - Release Date: November 26, 2014
Director: Tim Johnson - Writers: Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember
Voice Cast: Jim Parsons and Rihanna
Synopsis: "When the galaxy's most annoyingly optimistic alien finds himself on the run from his own alien race, he's forced to team up with a fiercely stubborn teenage girl. Together they become the most unlikely fugitives ever to save the planet."

The Penguins of Madagascar - Release Date: March 27, 2015

Trolls (working title) - Release Date: June 5, 2015
Director: Anand Tucker - Writers: Wallace Wollodarsky and Maya Forbes
Voice Cast: Jason Schwartzman and Chole Moretz
Synopsis: "Inspired by the mythology behind the wildly popular Troll dolls."

B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations - Release Date: November 6, 2015
Director: Tony Leondis - Writers: Tom Wheeler
Voice Cast: Seth Rogen
Synopsis: "DreamWorks Animation will bring you ghosts as you've never seen them before."

Mumbai Musical (working title) - Release Date: December 19, 2015
Director: Kevin Lima - Writers: Stephen Schwartz (lyrics), A.R. Rahman (music), David Sussman (script)
Synopsis: "The studio's first-ever Bollywood-style animated musical adventure inspired by the great Indian epic tale of The Ramayana but told from the point of view of the monkeys."

Kung Fu Panda 3 - Release Date: March 18, 2016
Director: Jennifer Yuh Nelson - Writers: Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger
