Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts may be joined by Benedict Cumberbatch in the dramatic film, August: Osage County, based on the critically acclaimed play. The Hollywood Reporter says Cumberbatch, best known for starring in BBC's Sherlock, has been offered the role of the son of Streep's character's sister, played by Margo Martindale.
The official synopsis: "August: Osage County tells the dark, hilarious and deeply touching story of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them."
Filming on The Weinstein Company project is expected to start next month.
Cumberbatch's other credits include Starter for 10, Atonement, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and War Horse. He recently finished up work on The Hobbit films (unless Peter Jackson brings him back in to work on the third Hobbit movie), the untitled Star Trek sequel, and Twelve Years a Slave with Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt.
