Digital Spy got the scoop on what's happening with the Dumb and Dumber sequel which, for a while, looked as though it would be minus Jim Carrey. However, Bobby Farrelly confirmed Carrey and Jeff Daniels have committed to returning for the sequel and he told Digital Spy it looks like it could be moving forward early next year with an eye on a fall 2013 theatrical release.
Dumb and Dumber was released in 1994 and made $264 million worldwide (with a budget of just $16 million) before exiting theaters. The sequel, if it does actually happen, would be set 20 years after the original film and would find the guys still as clueless as in the original movie. Dropping details on what to expect, Bobby Farrelly had this to offer about the plot: "The story revolves around the fact that one of them may have sired a child. They want to go and find the child because he's having a kidney problem and he wants to ask him for one of his kidneys."
Dumb & Dumber was followed by the short-lived animated TV series in 1995 and a prequel, Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, in 2004. Dumb and Dumberer proved to be too dumb for audiences, with the film only taking in $26 million during its domestic theatrical release.
