Lionsgate's reporting 3.8 million DVDs and Blu-rays were sold over The Hunger Games' first weekend in home video release. The Hunger Games theatrical release numbers have currently earned it the 13th spot on the top grossing North American films of all times chart and its first few days in digital and on demand release earned it first place as the biggest "first day sales of any title on Zune Video on Xbox."
Announcing the home video numbers, Lionsgate Executive Vice President and General Manager of Home Entertainment Ron Schwartz stated: "Our motion picture event of the year is translating into a home entertainment juggernaut that is already setting new digital records and demonstrating sustained playability similar to the film's remarkable long-term box office performance. We are especially pleased to see more than one third of its first weekend units sold in the higher margin Blu-ray format, a remarkably high percentage."
The Hunger Games has earned $407 million domestically and $700 million worldwide at the box office. The second film of the series, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, will begin shooting next month as Lionsgate eyes a November 22, 2013 release date. Suzanne Collins' third book of The Hunger Games trilogy, Mockingjay, has been divided into two parts with the film versions arriving on November 21, 2014 and November 20, 2015.

They should have went by the book more instead of making things up. Whoever read the book first knows the movie is not nearly the same as the book.
I didn’t read the books but really enjoyed the movie. After watching the trailers I didn’t think that I would like the movie but was pleasantly surprised. Looking forward to the next movie.
