Because Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, and Liam Hemsworth (whenever I type his name beside these action veterans I always hum Sesame Street's "One of these things is not like the others...") just aren't enough, producer Avi Lerner is looking to pack in more action actors in the next Expendables. And, yes, it looks like unless The Expendables 2 crashes and burns this weekend there will an Expendables 3.
Talking to Total Film, Lerner revealed they've already approached Clint Eastwood about the possibility of signing up for The Expendables 3. "We're talking to Harrison Ford. [And we want] Wesley Snipes when he comes back from prison. I'll give you one more name, we've got Nicolas Cage to play [one of the characters]," said Lerner in the Total Film interview.
Lerner also confirmed they'll be bringing the main cast back and he even added a name to the list that didn't make #2 but was in #1. "And we're going to bring Mickey Rourke back, if he won't be too crazy. I like Mickey. And of course, all the existing stars [will return]," said Lerner.
The Expendables hit theaters in 2010 and did $34 million domestically over its opening weekend, going on to collect $224 million worldwide before exiting theaters. The Expendables 2 is set for release in theaters on August 17th.
