Director Marc Webb has had to address why, just 10 after the first Spider-Man film, there's a need to go back and tell the origin story again almost every time he talks about the film. "We're telling the story in a different way," explained Webb during the press conference for The Amazing Spider-Man. "I think it's really important when you're redefining a character for the audience to experience things that they haven't experienced from the ground up. I wanted to build a character."
Webb (500 Days of Summer) also talked about casting Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, the action sequences, Spider-Man's mask, the Lizard's roar, and how The Amazing Spider-Man should actually qualify as a romantic comedy.
